First Day in London

We spent a good part of the day roaming around Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. I was absolutely astounded by the beauty of these enormous parks -it definitely didn't feel like we were in a major city. We kept stumbling across interesting monuments and fountains- a delightful surprise awaited us at every corner. Also surprising was the hot and sunny weather. Everyone in the park was in good spirits and the atmosphere felt so wonderful and relaxed. There was a disproportionate number of short-legged terriers compared to other types of dogs. And much more ethnic diversity than we were expecting. I was also continuously getting excited about all of the different species of birds (and feeling really dorky about it!)

We stopped at a pub for an ale that night and the bartender both didn't believe that we were old enough to drink or that we seriously were ordering ale. A man came up and said he could vouch for us and then introduced himself and his family, telling us they were from Commerce Township (for those who don't know- this was essentially the same town I lived in for a good chunk of my life). As we drank our ale and ate fish and chips, Stevie Wonder started playing on the radio. Home seems to follow us everywhere...
